Doha, 11 July 2010 - Qatar 2022’s Fan Zone at Souq Waqif has proven to be the venue of choice for Doha residents to watch the events unfold at the current FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Thousands of people have visited the Fan Zone since the grand opening on June 11 when hosts South Africa held Mexico to a 1-1 draw.
On Sunday the World Cup Final is sure to see a packed tent at Souq Waqif, and Qatar 2022 in collaboration with Doha Film Institute (DFI) have planned a fun-filled evening for attendees.
Qatar 2022 Bid Committee Launches “Generation Amazing” Program to Reach Children and Communities in Pakistan and Nepal
Doha, 19 May 2010 – The Qatar 2022 Bid Committee, in partnership with Reach Out to Asia (ROTA), has launched a new initiative geared towards harnessing the power of football to create meaningful and lasting social change in various communities throughout Pakistan and Nepal, using the sport to bring people together to foster cooperation and community development.
“Generation Amazing” is a major Football Development project targeting schools in developing countries, which aims to increase the quality of sport facilities, provide equipment and train a new generation of leaders through the sport of football. As part of its program, the bid has organized a major youth football tournament in each country and has selected 16 youth ambassadors to travel to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa this summer – 8 from Pakistan and 8 from Nepal. This educational trip will act as a follow-up to the football development programs already launched earlier this year in both countries. Another six children will be chosen through similar programs already underway in Syria and Lebanon, with three being selected from each country, making a total of 22 “Generation Amazing” youth sport ambassadors attending the World Cup.
Spectacular Celebrations in Support of Qatar's 2022 Bid at MES Indian School
Doha, 18 May 2010 - 10,000 students from the MES Indian School staged a magnificent event yesterday on their school grounds, in support of Qatar’s 2022 bid to host the FIFA World Cup. The red carpet was rolled out for guests of the event, who were treated to an array of cultural songs and dances, artistic displays and sports shows.
V.I.P. guests were treated to a traditional welcoming ceremony that included a band. The guests were guided to their stage seats and left to watch the events unfold that had encompassed two months of intense preparation. Students carried five large shirts around the school football pitch with messages of support for Qatar’s 2022 bid written on every inch of the material and wowed visitors with choreographed cultural dances. The students also composed and performed a special song in celebration of Qatar’s World Cup bid.

A senior delegation representing the Qatar 2022 Bid Committee, headed by Chairman, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, delivered Qatar’s 750-page bid book and additional seven binders with over 2,000 pages of supplementary documents to FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke.
The entire dossier, weighing in at more than 20 kilograms, is concerned with all relevant issues ranging from accommodation, transport, security, environment and stadium infrastructure and is backed up with all required government guarantees and agreements.
Qatar 2022 Submits Final Bid Book in Zurich
Zurich, 14 May 2010 - A senior delegation representing the Qatar 2022 Bid Committee headed by the Chairman H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will today be at FIFA headquarters to present Qatar’s bid book to FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke.
The twenty-chapter bid book contains the details of what would be the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East. It reveals plans for the twelve proposed stadiums, five of which were unveiled at a spectacular exhibition in Dubai at the end of last month. Qatar 2022 will be a carbon neutral World Cup, utilising sustainable technologies and groundbreaking cooling systems for stadiums, fan zones and training grounds. Fans, players and officials will be able to enjoy cool and comfortable open-air conditions, not exceeding 27 degrees Celsius. Climate and location will no longer stand in the way of nations that have previously been unable to host major tournaments at certain times of the year.
Palestinian School Displays Support for Qatar 2022 Bid
Doha, 9 May 2010 - Qatar 2022's local community outreach programme continued on Thursday at the Palestinian School in Doha with a morning of sports, games and displays by students in support of Qatar's bid to host the FIFA World Cup™.
Students treated guests to an exhibition of sports activities, including a mini football match, in addition to a variety of different cultural and artistic displays celebrating Qatari and Palestinian heritage.
Five Football Legends from the Gulf Back the Bid
Dubai, 30 April 2010 - Qatar 2022 last night unveiled five new ambassadors that have pledged their support for the bid, all legends from Gulf football folklore. Mansour Muftah (Qatar), Majid Abdullah (Saudi Arabia), Adnan Al Talyani (United Arab Emirates), Abdulaziz Al Anberi (Kuwait) and Nasser Hamdan Al Riyami (Oman), spoke of their support for Qatar’s attempt to bring the World Cup to the Middle East for the first time.

Qatar 2022 Bid CEO tells CAF delegates of his country’s World Cup Ambition
Luanda, 30 January 2010 - The CEO of the Qatar 2022 Bid Committee, Hassan Abdulla Al Thawadi, yesterday presented his country’s Bid to members of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at the African Cup of Nations, in Angola where the final of the competition is taking place on Sunday.
In his speech to the assembled delegates, Al Thawadi also announced that Roger Milla, the former Cameroonian footballer described by Pelé as one of the greatest living players, was to be a new Ambassador for the Qatar Bid. Milla accepted his role in a video which was played during the presentation. Al Thawadi also presented two short films about Qatar and told the audience about the many close links binding Qatar and Africa together.
Al Thawadi said that like Africa, Qatar has real ambition to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022– and that Africa had helped to “ignite” his country’s vision.
