"Qatar Portrait" is introduction to the enchanting landscape of Qatar.

His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, has commissioned the "Qatar National Vision 2030" designed to transform Qatar into an advanced country, capable of sustaining its own development and providing a high standard of living for generations to come. The government is therefore diversifying the economy and fostering Qatar as a knowledge-driven economy and society. Naturally sports play a strong role in that future .As part of its strategy to establish Qatar as a new tourist destination, the government has also set aside US$17 billion for tourism development.

Qatar offers its visitors a vast number of beach resorts and countless fine international hotels, increasing year by year. Many of them feature pristine private beaches, luxurious pools and sports facilities.

Touching distance

Qatar has a well-organised transport system. Throughout the country, taxis can be hailed at the roadside. In addition, there is an efficient public bus service.

Qatar Airways is the state´s national carrier and is one of only six airlines in the world with a five-star ranking for service and hospitality. Qatar Airways is one of the youngest and fastest growing airlines in the world. With a fleet of 60 aircraft, Qatar Airways flies to more than 80 destinations globally.

Qatar is also busy developing a modern integrated railway system in collaboration with German railway experts Deutsche Bahn. The multi-billion dollar project involves putting in place an efficient local transport system, as well as international freight and passenger lines, including a high-speed rail link to Bahrain.

Also in development is the Doha Metro Network, which will eventually be comprised of six Metro lines.
